South Africa head coach Jacques Nienaber feels scrum-half Jaden Hendrikse could be on the sidelines for a lengthy period following his latest injury setback.

The 21-year-old sustained a leg injury during the recently concluded second round Rugby Championship clash against Argentina which they went on to win 29-10 in Port Elizabeth.

Hendrikse, who came off the bench in the 65th minute replacing Cobus Reinach was a victim of a late tackle seven minutes later but the TMO cleared of any foul play.

Speaking after the game, Nienaber said Hendrikse has underwent scan and they are awaiting the results to find the extent of damage.

“I think he is going to be in trouble,” said Nienaber.

“He went for scans now. Hopefully, it is not bad.

“Jaden is a tough character, but he couldn’t put weight on his leg.

“I think it might be more than just a ligament. It might be bony.”

Following back to back wins over Argentina, South Africa are currently at the top of the Rugby Championship table with nine points and are followed by New Zealand and Australia.
