Italy will face Chile in Genoa on 22 November after World Rugby confirmed a fixture change to the Quilter Nations Series.

Chile step in as opponents following their successful qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, replacing Samoa, who have opted to focus on next month’s final qualification tournament in Dubai.

The match will mark the first-ever test between Italy and Chile, staged at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, a venue with strong ties to Genoa’s South American community.

The switch was made in full agreement between the unions of Italy, Chile, and Samoa, alongside World Rugby and Six Nations Rugby.

World Rugby Chief Executive Alan Gilpin praised the cooperation between unions and highlighted Chile’s growing presence on the world stage.

“We are deeply appreciative of the collaboration and understanding shown by all unions involved, the FIR and Six Nations Rugby for accommodating the schedule adjustment," said Gilpin.

"Chile, fresh from qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2027, are an exciting and fast-emerging force in world rugby and will embrace the opportunity to face Italy in this historic test.

“While we appreciate that its disappointing for Samoa fans not to see their team in action in Europe in November, at the same time we fully recognise that they must focus their efforts and resources on the Rugby World Cup 2027 final qualification tournament.”

Six Nations Rugby CEO Tom Harrison described the fixture as a valuable opportunity for Chile to develop, while Italian Rugby Federation President Andrea Duodo called it a “new challenge” that would create a special occasion for fans.

“Thanks to Italy for accommodating the change to their fixture. Chile are an exciting addition to the November window, bringing their culture and identity into the Series, whilst offering them a huge opportunity to develop as they build towards the Rugby World Cup in Australia," said Harrison.
