Leicester Tigers’ fly-half Handré Pollard delivered a stellar performance in his team’s resounding 50-point victory over the Hollywoodbets Sharks in the Investec Champions Cup.
The Springbok playmaker described the tournament as the “ultimate club competition,” showcasing his appreciation for competing at the highest level.
Pollard played a pivotal role in the Tigers’ first win of the campaign, contributing a flawless display from the tee.
He converted six out of eight tries, including scoring one himself, to amass a personal tally of 17 points. His composure and consistency earned him the Investec Player of the Match award.
Speaking post-match, Pollard reflected on the Tigers’ performance, acknowledging the challenging opposition and room for improvement.
"It was a good match, we played very well at times… Credit to the Sharks, they’re a tough team so we’re happy with the win, but there’s always stuff we can do better," he said.
Despite uncertainty surrounding his long-term future with Leicester, Pollard expressed his admiration for the club and its supporters.
"There’s nothing like it, it’s the most unbelievable place, and it’s a privilege to play here… it’s unbelievable," said the Springbok star, who continues to enjoy every moment in a Tigers jersey.
Pollard also emphasized the prestige of the Investec Champions Cup, praising its ability to test players against elite competition.
"This is the ultimate club competition - you measure yourself against the best, and that’s what you want to do as a rugby player. You play in different conditions, in different countries, and it’s an unbelievable competition."
With a win and two bonus points already secured, Leicester Tigers have set a promising foundation in this year’s Investec Champions Cup campaign. They will return to action in January, aiming to capitalize on their momentum and push for qualification from the pool stage.
