Gloucester have announced the signing of hooker George McGuigan from Premiership rivals Newcastle Falcons ahead of the 2023/24 season.

A product of Newcastle Academy, McGuigan is currently on a second stint with the club and has over 150 appearances for them.

The 29-year-old also played for Leicester Tigers between 2016 and 2018 and has racked up over 180 caps in the Premiership for both the clubs combined.

He also represented Ireland at the Under 18 and Under 20 levels while also representing England Saxons during their 2016 tour of South Africa. He was also called-up to England's training squad ahead of their summer tour of Australia in June 2022.

Gloucester Rugby Head Coach George Skivington is pleased with the announcement of McGuigan's signing.

“It’s a huge coup for the club that we’ve been able to secure someone of George’s talent," said Skivington to the club's official website.

"While he will provide extra cover in the absence of Jack, he’s with us for the long term, and I’m excited to see the role he can play in helping the club reach its ambitions this season and beyond.”
