France has been dealt a significant blow ahead of the Nations Series as star flyhalf Romain Ntamack has been ruled out of the competition due to injury.

Ntamack, who has 37 caps for France, sustained a calf injury while playing for Toulouse two weeks ago and has been undergoing recovery. The decision was made to allow him to heal fully without the risk of further complications.

This is another setback for Ntamack, who missed the 2023 Rugby World Cup due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained in a match against Scotland in August 2023.

His absence in the Nations Series will be felt, as France prepares for their matches against Japan on November 9, New Zealand on November 16, and Argentina on November 22.

Ntamack's injury was confirmed after medical assessments indicated a three to four-week recovery period. Despite hopes for his return, the French medical team has decided that Ntamack should focus on a full recovery.

“My injury is progressing well, more fear than harm. I don’t have a specific deadline but am taking the time needed to avoid a relapse,” said Ntamack. “I’m doing things in order and trying not to rush.”

With Ntamack missing, Fabien Galthié’s squad of 42 players will need to adapt as they face a challenging November schedule. The experienced flyhalf’s absence will undoubtedly impact France’s game plan as they look to continue their strong form in international rugby.
