We take a look at five players, who could possibly be missed out when Warren Gatland announces the British and Irish Lions squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour on Wednesday.

DYLAN HARTLEY, ENGLAND

Hartley could be the biggest casualty to miss out on selection, potentially being pipped by his England understudy Jamie George who is the Six Nations champions' form hooker.

JONATHAN JOSEPH, ENGLAND

Appears to have missed the cut, although on form it is hard to see how he fails to make the touring party, his attacking skills now matched by an improved robustness in defence.

JAMIE HEASLIP, IRELAND

A two-time Lions tourist, winning five caps in South Africa and Australia, but his performances have tailed off in recent times and number eight is a fiercely competitive position.

FINN RUSSELL, SCOTLAND

One of the catalysts for Scotland's revival, Russell's brilliance in attacking play would make him a useful alternative to the likes of Jonathan Sexton and Dan Biggar, but he is also a risky option.

JAMIE ROBERTS, WALES

Another Lions giant who excelled in 2009 and 2013 but appeared destined to miss out this time. Roberts has struggled to make an impact over the last two seasons and can be one-dimensional, yet reports on Tuesday suggested he may earn a shock call.
