Fiji have received a major blow ahead of the upcoming Rugby World Cup campaign with fly-half Caleb Muntz ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.

The 23-year-old sustained a knee injury during a training session in a non-contact practice session on Monday.

Fiji head coach Simon Raiwalui expressed disappointment while confirming the news on Muntz.

“It’s most devastating for us as a group and for Caleb, he has worked so hard for the past two years with the Fijian Drua and for Flying Fijians," Raiwalui said in a statement.

"We feel for him as a young man he misses the opportunity so close to the Rugby World Cup.”

Raiwalui said a replacement for Muntz, who made his debut for Fiji against Tonga in July and has four Test caps to his name will be named in due course.

Fiji will be kick-starting their campaign with a clash against Wales on 10th September before going on to lock horns with the Wallabies on 17th September. They will also be facing Georgia and Portugal in the remainder of the Pool C fixtures.
