Exeter Chiefs have confirmed the departure of 15 players at the end of the 2024/25 season, marking a significant transition period for the club as they prepare for a new chapter.
The list features a blend of long-serving veterans, rising academy graduates, and recent signings, all of whom have contributed to Exeter’s campaigns in recent years.
Among the most prominent names is scrum-half Stu Townsend, a key figure for the club who has reached the 100-cap milestone. Townsend will continue his career with Harlequins.
Back-rower Jacques Vermeulen, a crucial member of the double-winning squad, is set to move to Sale Sharks. Academy graduate Billy Keast will also part ways with the Chiefs to join Worcester Warriors.
Also heading for new clubs are Dan Frost (Bath Rugby), Jack Innard (Gloucester Rugby), Joe Hawkins (Scarlets), Marcus Street (Saracens), Sam Maunder (Coventry), Chester Ribbons (Cornish Pirates), and Charlie McCaig (Edinburgh Rugby).
Four players — Niall Armstrong, Jack Dunne, Hallan Chapman, and Franco Molina — will depart with their next destinations yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, Eoin O’Connor has announced his retirement from professional rugby.
Director of Rugby Rob Baxter expressed appreciation for the contributions made by the outgoing players:
“I’d like to thank all the players leaving us for being a part of the Chiefs journey.
"They have all contributed to our environment and I know I speak for everyone at the club when I say that we wish them all the very best in the future.”
