England’s preparations for their highly anticipated match against world champions South Africa have taken a hit, with star wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and flanker Tom Curry both ruled out due to injuries.

The team will be missing Feyi-Waboso, who sustained a head injury in Saturday's narrow 42-37 defeat to Australia, as well as Curry, who was also sidelined after suffering a concussion in the same game.

Feyi-Waboso, who attempted to prevent a try in the 50th minute against Australia, will not be available for Saturday’s match at Allianz Stadium.

His absence is a significant blow to head coach Steve Borthwick’s squad, as the young wing has quickly become a critical component of England’s backline since debuting in the Six Nations. Known for his agility and finishing abilities, Feyi-Waboso has scored five tries in just eight appearances.

Adding to England’s challenges, Curry was forced off the field after a collision with Rob Valentini, which left him with a head injury. Curry’s absence removes a key player from England’s breakdown strategy, further limiting their options against the formidable Springboks.

With both players out, Borthwick has moved to reinforce his squad. Bath’s Ted Hill has been brought in as back-row cover, while Tom Roebuck from Sale will join as a back-three option, filling the void left by Feyi-Waboso.

The No. 7 jersey will now likely go to either Ben Curry or Sam Underhill, while Ollie Sleightholme, who scored twice as a substitute against the Wallabies, is set to replace Feyi-Waboso on the wing.

England's recent form, marked by five defeats in their last six matches, has seen the team struggle to maintain control in games they initially led.

Saturday’s match against Australia highlighted these issues, as England’s grip weakened following Curry’s departure, allowing the Wallabies to stage a comeback.

Saturday’s clash against the Springboks is not only a grudge match after last year’s World Cup semi-final defeat but also an opportunity for England to regain momentum and salvage their autumn campaign.
