England have suffered a fresh injury setback ahead of their Nations Championship clash with Fiji, with Cadan Murley and Beno Obano ruled out of Saturday’s match in Liverpool.
England Injury Blow Before Fiji Clash
Murley has been withdrawn from Steve Borthwick’s squad after suffering a shoulder injury during England’s 45-21 defeat to South Africa at Ellis Park.
The Harlequins wing joins George Furbank on the unavailable list, with Furbank already ruled out after undergoing surgery for appendicitis in Johannesburg. Tom Roebuck was called into camp earlier this week as cover for Furbank.
Borthwick Faces England Backline Dilemma
England are now dealing with a backline selection issue ahead of the Fiji fixture at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Freddie Steward is also reported to be a doubt after rolling his ankle during training in South Africa.
Borthwick could consider changes in the outside backs, with teenage wing Noah Caluori in contention for a possible debut. South African-born centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg is also available on residency grounds this week and could come into selection discussions.
Iyogun And Cunningham-South Called Up
Loosehead prop Beno Obano has also dropped out because of injury after coming off the bench against the Springboks. Northampton Saints prop Emmanuel Iyogun has been called up as his replacement.
Back-five forward Chandler Cunningham-South has also been added to the squad, giving England another physical option in the pack.
