England and Northampton Saints scrum-half Alex Mitchell has been ruled out of the remainder of the PREM Rugby season after suffering a hamstring injury, leaving him in doubt for England’s summer Tests.
Alex Mitchell Injury Blow For Northampton Saints
Mitchell sustained the hamstring injury during an England alignment camp last week. The setback means the 29-year-old will miss Northampton Saints’ final league fixtures and their expected involvement in the play-offs.
Saints are currently top of the PREM Rugby table and are on course to secure a home semi-final, but they will now have to finish the campaign without one of their most influential players.
England Summer Tests Doubt
Mitchell’s availability for England’s July Tests remains uncertain. England are scheduled to face South Africa on July 4, followed by fixtures against Fiji and Argentina on the next two Saturdays.
Northampton do have a positive option in 21-year-old Archie McParland, who has impressed this season while covering for Mitchell during an earlier hamstring absence.
McParland previously stepped in after Mitchell suffered a hamstring injury during England’s Six Nations defeat to Ireland, and his form could now prove important during Saints’ play-off push.
The England camp also saw Tom Curry return to Sale Sharks for monitoring after showing concussion symptoms.
