England international Tom Varndell is set to join Pro 14 club Scarlets on a short-term contract.

Varndell, who has worked with Leicester Tigers, Wasps and Bristol was also Aviva Premiership's leading try-scorer last season and will join the Welsh regional side until the end of the ongoing season.

The decision to sign the 32-year-old comes after Scarlets have lost Johnny Mcnicholl for the remainder of the ongoing season due to a shoulder surgery while Tom Prydie, Tom Grabham, Rhys Jones and Morgan Williams are also sidelined with injuries.

The squad was further weakened with Steff Evans, Leigh Halfpenny and Rhys Patchell are busy with international duty.

Varndell has played four Tests for England between 2005 and 2008 in which he has scored three tries.

Scarlets are currently at the second position in Conference B with 12 wins from 16 games in the ongoing season of Pro 14.
