The pool draw for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup has been announced, with hosts and tournament favorites England set to face Australia, the United States, and Samoa in Pool A.
England, who have won 50 of their last 51 matches, will enter the tournament as the top contenders, with their only loss in that period being the 2021 World Cup final against New Zealand.
The highly anticipated draw, confirmed on Thursday, also placed six-time champions New Zealand in Pool C alongside Ireland, Japan, and Spain.
The Black Ferns will not underestimate Ireland, who handed them a surprise defeat in the WXV last month and in the 2014 World Cup group stages.
Pool B features 2014 runners-up Canada, who will face Scotland, Wales, and Fiji, while Pool D includes France, Italy, South Africa, and tournament debutants Brazil.
Despite France’s seven third-place finishes, they have yet to reach a World Cup final, making this tournament crucial for their aspirations.
The 2025 tournament will take place from August 22 to September 27 across eight venues in England, with the opening match scheduled at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. Additional pool matches will be held in Brighton and Hove, Exeter, Salford, Northampton, and York.
Exeter and Bristol will host the quarter-finals, with Bristol also set to stage the semi-finals.
The grand final will take place at Twickenham, and if the stadium reaches its full 82,000 capacity, it will set a record for the largest crowd to witness a women’s international rugby match.
This World Cup promises to be one of the most exciting in history, as top teams prepare to compete for the ultimate prize in women's rugby.
