The All Blacks head coach Ian Foster has confirmed the 33-man squad for the upcoming Rugby World Cup campaign to be played in France.

Sam Cane, who returned from injury to lead the All Blacks in the Bledisloe Cup II clash in Dunedin will lead the squad that also has Brodie Retallick, who seems to have overcome a knee injury to feature on what will be his third World Cup campaign.

Retallick will be joined by Sam Whitelock, Scott Barrett and Tupou Vaa’i in the second row options while Tamati Williams joins Ofa Tu’ungafasi, Nepo Laulala, Fletcher Newell and Ethan de Groot among the six props in the squad.

David Havili makes it to the selection despite a hamstring injury kept him out for the most of the previous season.

Beauden Barrett, Damian McKenzie and Richie Mo'unga are the fly-halves options while the experienced Aaron Smith is joined by Finlay Christie and Cam Roigard amongst the three scrum-halves in the squad.

“We congratulate those 33 players selected,’’ Foster said.

“This year’s Rugby World Cup promises to be the most competitive yet and the pool draw means we have to ready right from the outset.

"We have worked hard through the first part of our season and have made some strong progress through the Rugby Championship and the Bledisloe series.

“There is more growth to come and more is needed This is a vastly experienced team but with over half the players going to their first World Cup, it has a strong balance of youth and future planning.’’
