London Irish have confirmed the signing of Brendan Macken ahead of the 2018/19 season of Greene King IPA Championship.

The 6 ft 2 in centre made his professional rugby debut with Leinster in 2010 and after a brief loan stint with Gloucester, he joined Wasps in 2015 and has combined played 20 games in the Premiership for both the clubs.

London Irish director of rugby Declan Kidney is confident that the 27-year-old's addition will add more depth to the squad as they aim to make a comeback to the top tier.

“Brendan is a good signing for us,” he said.

“He’s got a lot of experience from his time in the Premiership and at Leinster, and plenty of ability.

"Ideally you need two players in every position in a squad and with Brendan’s signing we now have that, and it will be good to have him at Hazelwood this season.”

Meanwhile, Macken is hoping to contribute to the club's success and is keen to work under Declan Kidney.

“I’m delighted to be joining London Irish,” Macken added.

“It’s a great club steeped with some great history. I’m really looking forward to be working with Declan, Les and the rest of the coaches who have huge ambitions for the club, and I’m hoping to be able to be a part of them.”

London Irish will take on Ealing Trailfinders in the opening round of the Greene King IPA Championship on 1st September at Trailfinders Sports Ground.
