The Black Ferns have completed their coaching group with the appointment of Simon Kneebone as set-piece specialist, adding another experienced voice to Whitney Hansen’s management team as New Zealand continue preparations for the next international cycle.
Simon Kneebone Joins Black Ferns Coaching Team
Kneebone has been appointed as an assistant coach with responsibility for the set-piece, finalising Hansen’s coaching structure after she took over as head coach in December.
Hansen retained Tony Christie as attack coach and Riki Flutey as defence coach, and Kneebone now fills the remaining specialist role in the group.
Whitney Hansen Completes Black Ferns Staff
Hansen replaced Allan Bunting as Black Ferns head coach and has moved quickly to settle her backroom team. In addition to the coaching group, Jenelle Strickland will continue as team manager, bringing further continuity and tournament experience to the environment.
The completed structure now provides clarity for the squad as preparations continue for the upcoming Test schedule.
Kneebone Brings Women’s Rugby Pathway Experience
Kneebone has built his coaching profile through the women’s game in New Zealand. He worked as Canterbury forwards coach during back-to-back Farah Palmer Cup title wins and later held assistant roles with Matatu and Black Ferns XV.
“Coaching in the women’s space is incredibly rewarding. I love how motivated the players are for growth both on and off the field, and supporting them as they chase greatness," Kneebone said.
"The Black Ferns are a special team with a proud history and I’m excited to contribute to the success of our players as they reach their highest potential,” he added.
