Benetton Treviso managed to overcome double yellow card scare in the second half to edge out Bayonne by 21-17 in the European Challenge Cup encounter at Stadio Comunale di Monigo on Saturday.

After having a 11-point lead at half-time, Benetton Treviso were reduced to 13-men temporarily when flanker Braam Steyn and wing Luca Sperandio were sin-binned but Bayonne failed to capitalise on it completely.

Fullback Julien Tisseron try in the 14th minute sandwiched between a penalty and a conversion from fly-half Raphael Lagarde Bayonne to a 10-point lead.

However, Benetton Treviso struck back with David Odiete (17') and hooker Luca Bigi (25') crossing over and they were also awarded a penalty try in the 36th minute. Fly-half Tommaso Allan triple conversions helped them gain 11-point lead heading into half-time.

Things went haywire for the home team with sin-bins to Steyn and Sperandio in 50th and 55th minute respectively and centre Thibault Lacroix strolled past the post between the two infringements raising Bayonne's hopes.

However, Benetton Treviso held their nerve and ensured there were no more hiccups as they completed a four-point victory.

Treviso are placed third in Pool 1 while Bayonne, who are yet to win a game this season is at the bottom.
