Dragons RFC have secured the future of club captain Ben Carter, with the Wales international agreeing to a new long-term contract.
The 23-year-old lock, considered one of the brightest talents in Welsh rugby, will continue his journey with the Men of Gwent, where he has made a significant impact since his debut in 2020.
Carter, who hails from Caldicot, has been a standout player for Dragons RFC, quickly becoming a key figure in the squad.
After making his debut in November 2020, he has gone on to make 61 appearances for the club, showcasing his consistency and leadership on the field. Earlier this season, he was named club captain, further solidifying his role as a leader within the team.
At just 23, Carter's influence extends beyond the club level. He made his debut for the Wales national team in July 2021 during a match against Canada and has since earned 12 international caps. His international experience was further bolstered by a tour to Australia this summer, adding valuable experience to his rugby career.
Carter's leadership abilities were first highlighted in October 2022 when he captained Dragons RFC against Benetton, becoming the second youngest player to lead the team, behind Ashley Smith. This achievement underscored his potential as a future leader in Welsh rugby.
“I’m really pleased to sign and commit my future to Dragons RFC," said Carter to the club's official website.
“It’s an exciting young group to be a part of and I’m determined to take a leading role in helping us continue to develop as a squad and achieve our ambitions in the seasons to come.
“You can see the progress we’ve made as a group with the performances we have put this season and now it is about turning those into positive results.”
