Bath Rugby have confirmed the appointment of Martin Gleeson as their new backs and attack coach ahead of the new Gallagher Premiership campaign.

The 45-year-old arrives from rugby league side Warrington Wolves, where he had spent just over two years as assistant coach.

Gleeson, who has previously worked in rugby union with Wasps and also served as England’s attack coach between 2021 and early 2023, will now join Johann van Graan’s backroom team at the reigning Premiership champions.

He replaces Lee Blackett, who recently departed to take up a role with England’s coaching staff.

“What's not to get excited about? I have been watching with a keen eye the team that Johann has put together and the journey they have been on over these last couple of years,” Gleeson said after the announcement.

“There are a lot of people here that I already know so that was a big factor behind me coming here and I am really looking to build on what Lee has put in place.”

As a player, Gleeson enjoyed a successful rugby league career, winning the Super League twice and representing England and Great Britain. He played for Huddersfield, St Helens, Wigan, Hull and Warrington before retiring in 2014 after more than 300 career appearances.
