England have suffered another blow in the ongoing autumn international campaign with Sale Sharks flanker Tom Curry ruled out of the series following an ankle injury.

The 20-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of the opening game against South Africa which the red rose team went on to win 12-11 at Twickenham Stadium last weekend.

He was initially left out of the squad for the upcoming clash against the All Blacks on Saturday but now following an assessment it was confirmed that Curry will miss the remainder of the series.

“Tom Curry is not available this week and he’ll be ruled out for the rest of the series as well,” said Borthwick.

“He injured his ankle but beyond that we don’t know how long, but for the next three Test matches he’ll be unavailable for us – everybody else is available for selection.”

Curry has featured in five Tests for England after making his debut during the Argentina tour in summer 2017. Last weekend's game was his fourth consecutive start against South Africa after he was part of the three-game series against Rassie Erasmus' side in June this year.

“He’s a fantastic young player, you saw that in the summer and you saw it at the weekend,” added Borthwick.

“He’s got a really fantastic future ahead of him. It’s disappointing but whenever there’s an opportunity for you as a player to improve and to get better.”

Meanwhile, Eddie Jones will be relieved by the news that Manu Tuilagi and Courtney Lawes have been declared fit to face the All Blacks after missing the game against South Africa due to a groin and a back injury respectively.
