British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell has set his sights on a clean sweep after his side secured the Test series against Australia with a dramatic 29-26 win in Melbourne on Saturday.

Full-back Hugo Keenan scored a last-minute try to seal the Lions’ second consecutive victory, giving them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The win marked the Lions’ first series triumph since their 2-1 success over the Wallabies in 2013 and their first-ever Test win in Melbourne.

Despite having already clinched the series, Farrell made it clear that the mission is not over. “The plan will stay the same,” he said. “Win or lose, we trust the plan ahead.”

The Lions were trailing 23-5 in the first half but showed immense character to claw their way back. A crucial try from Tadhg Beirne near the hour mark brought the tourists within touching distance before Keenan finished a sweeping move at the death to secure the victory.

Reflecting on the achievement, Farrell said the players deserved to be called legends. “We’ve made history, haven’t we? So does that warrant that kind of tag? Why not? We came to do what we’ve done tonight, and we should all celebrate.”

Lions captain Maro Itoje echoed the sentiment. “These are moments in your life you’ll cherish,” he said. “You often move on to the next thing in sport, but every now and again it’s important to savour the moment.”

With 90,000 fans watching at the MCG, the Lions produced one of the most memorable finishes in their tour history.

“To get to this point, to win in front of 90,000 people with a dramatic finish like that, it’s what dreams are made of,” added Farrell.

“You wouldn’t have backed us at 23-5, but finding a way adds to the story, the fairy tale. To be part of that is an honour.”
