What does the Tour of Australia mean for England’s Chances in the Autumn Nations Cup?

England went into the Tour of Australia as favourites but with a point to prove against the Wallabies.

With the former Australian Head Coach Eddie Jones trying to find the right performance - whilst it didn’t come the result did and has another series victory in his hands.

It’s a result they needed after a disappointing Six nations last February with just two wins from five games as France went home with the trophy and 100% win record. Past is the Past for England now as they prepare for the Autumn Internationals to improve performance for the Six nations and then the big one - the World Cup.

The main highlights of the Tour of Australia

  1. England wins the Tour

England went in as favorites but Australia managed to win the first test 30-28. To add further insult to the injury, Australia had Darcy Swain sent off for foul play. However, England managed to win the second test 25-17 to set up an exciting third test against Australia. The Third test was won by England 21-17 as they go for the next friendlies with a high morale.

  1. Eddie Jones Row

Following the win during the decider, Eddie Jones was in a furious a row as a couple of supporters called him a ‘traitor’. He used to coach the nation from 2001-2005 and he’s Australian himself. Rugby Australia has called the behaviour unacceptable as the videos were visible on the social media.

  1. Darcy Swain Headbutt

Darcy Swain was sent off for headbutting Jonny Hill after an altercation. Australia tried to contest it on the basis that Darcy Swain never had any issues before but ultimately the ban was upheld.

How will England prepare for the World Cup 2023

England will play in the Autumn rugby union internationals again in November during the autumn edition against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.  This will serve as preparation before the Six Nations in February 2023. This games will give Eddie and the team time and platform to improve their performance and the holes clearly showing before the Championship which will lead to the World Cup. Hence, it’s really important to have a great Six Nations next Year for the confidence and the form of the teams.

For many, France is currently the favourites with odds of 5/2 whilst England are third favourite with odds of 5/1. You can understand that France’s strong performance in the 2022 Nations League prompted those strong odds. It’s true that the World Cup is nearly a year around but if you are interested in placing a bet, the odds right now can help you if you are in favour of England. Many bettors are giving welcome offers or free bets if you are new to a bookmaker or betting. You can find online where to find free bet offers but it’s really important to study, analyse different odds and offers before placing your bet. Anything else then the Semi Finals will be seen as a bad tournament for England but with a moderate Pool where only the game against Argentina should be a struggle, England should be ready to take on the best.
