Toulon have confirmed the signing of New Zealand international Julian Savea for the upcoming 2018/19 season of Top 14.

The news follows weeks after the 27-year-old had committed his future to New Zealand to represent Wellington Lions in the Mitre10 Cup. He was contracted with New Zealand Rugby until 2019 but it is understood that a compromise has been reached leading to his two-year deal with Toulon.

Savea confirmed the news on his social media handle Twitter.

"Thank you for everything @Hurricanesrugby @AllBlacks & @WgtnRugby. I've absolutely loved playing for my country for the past decade. Looking forward to this new adventure & joining @RCTofficiel in a few months."

A statement released by Toulon revealed that Savea will join the squad in August.

"A complete player who can also evolve at the centre position and further improve the line of three-quarters of the RCT (Rugby Club Toulonnais)."

Savea has featured in 54 Tests for New Zealand and has amassed 46 tries and has featured for Hurricanes 120 times between 2011 and 2018.

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen paid tributes to Savea.

"Jules can be incredibly proud of everything he has achieved in the black jersey. He is a devastating ball runner who inspired others with his physicality and try-scoring prowess. On behalf of all the All Blacks, we want to wish Julian and his family all the very best and thank him for everything he has done for the All Blacks."
