The 2022 Six Nations in a nutshell

We unpack the latest Six Nations campaign and try to decipher the top performers of the 2022 tournament.

France’s unbeaten run saw them finish as Grand Slam winners, ending their tournament with an emphatic 24-13 win over England at the Stade de France in Paris where you can bet here for more info. It was their first Grand Slam for 12 years and not only did the win put an end to that drought, but it also saw them evolve from a team full of promise, to a team that delivered on the biggest stage in Europe.

Ireland can consider their tournament a success, finishing second with four wins and one loss, but in doing so, claimed the Triple Crown beating all the home nations, the first time in four years.

Although England finished third, they could only manage two wins, and escaped fourth place due to their points difference being slightly higher than Scotland’s. So, overall, a lacklustre performance from the English side who came into the tournament on the back of a successful undefeated Autumn Nations campaign, beating world champions South Africa at Twickenham only a couple of months prior.

Scotland narrowly miss out on third, so that sees them take fourth, a set of narrow losses along with an underwhelming final performance against Ireland leaves them with plenty to build on come 2023.

Wales can consider themselves lucky to only be in fifth, a series of undercooked outings led to the final weekend where they produced a dreadful display against Italy in Cardiff loosing 21-22, which highlights their struggles ahead of the http://gg.bet/en/esports/ RWC23.

Italy can leave with their heads held high after their win against Wales, breaking their 36-game losing streak in style as Ange Capuozzo carved his way through the defence and into the history books. Hopefully they can kick on and keep reproducing this type of performance in the months to come as they prep for a difficult group in the Rugby World Cup.

Grégory Alldritt

The French man mountain was top of the carrying charts with 65, and able to play all 5 games with the type of consistency rarely seen at this level. His performances didn’t go unnoticed as he one of the three nominees for Player of the Tournament.

Josh van der Flier

Great to see him back to his best, continually cropping up everywhere to get through countless minutes of graft, thrives in both defence and attack. Another potential Player of the Tournament as he is nominated alongside Alldritt.

Maro Itoje

No matter the opposition Maro stands out for England, he’s a menace in defence, looking to disrupt as much as possible. He’s consciously adding to his carrying game and now looks to run through defences in and around the ruck for some front fall ball.

Antoine Dupont

Didn't prove a shining light in all of the five games, but certainly knows how to lead from the front in the big ones. Captaining France to their first Six Nations tournament win in 12 years, a Grand Slam no less! Add that to his Player of the Tournament nomination and it’s no wonder he’s getting the plaudits.

Gaël Fickou

A massive source of flair in the stacked French backline, deceptively fast and elusive with the ability to score with ease. Conjuring up attacking opportunities from nothing should be applauded at this level, and Fickou did that on several occasions this Six Nations.
