Tarleton Senior Colts played their last match of the year at home against local rivals Ormskirk Senior Colts on Sunday.
Both sides cancelled each other out in the first half hour with good defensive work and most of the attacking plays were stopped before they could develop into try scoring opportunities.
It fell to Tarleton to open the scoring with some good phases of forwards play and then a quick ball to Frankie Skofic from the ruck saw him break through two would be Ormskirk tackles to score a good try. The extras were added by Aiden Miller and Tarleton were 7-0 ahead.
This try seemed to settle Tarleton down and they started to create more chances, the next try came from a good Tarleton scrum that allowed Max Kelly to pick up at the back and make a good break before passing inside to Frankie Skofic who broke the gain line again before passing to Josh Watt who crashed over to score.
At half time the score was 12-0 and Tarleton had the advantage of the wind in the second half. Despite this they still had to defend as Ormskirk came at them with several attacks that had to be dealt with.
Even though they had the use of a strong following wind the next try came from Tarleton keeping the ball in hand and with good forwards play and some deft handling by the backs Josh Watt was slipped the ball as he ran a great line to fox the Ormskirk defence and went over for his second try.
The final try followed a penalty to Tarleton that they kicked for the corner with, they totally messed up the line out but won the ball back in contact and the ball was whipped across the back line and Aiden Miller charged through to score. The conversion by Max Kelly was good and Tarleton had the game sewn up at 24-0.
Another good result for Tarleton that keeps the pressure on Widnes above them at the top of the table who know that they cannot afford to slip up if they are to stave off this Tarleton side that is playing with a lot more confidence and self-belief than earlier in the season.
