A Typical Recovery Day
“On a recovery day, I’ll wake up around nine o’clock, head downstairs, grab a coffee and my AG1,” Smith says. “We often go out for breakfast as a group — it’s a nice way to connect with the lads outside training. There’s a local coffee shop we all love.”
Breakfast, Training Fuel, and Calorie Goals
When it comes to breakfast, simplicity rules. “A typical breakfast would be a slice of sourdough, scrambled eggs, avocado, and either salmon or bacon,” Smith explains. “On heavier training days, I’ll bump up the carbs — maybe an extra slice of toast or some banana bread — just to make sure I’ve got the energy for the session.”

Over the years, Smith says his mindset around nutrition has matured. “I’ve become more strategic. I tailor what I eat to what my body needs — anti-inflammatory foods after games, more carbs before them. It’s about being targeted and maintaining the right body composition while still performing at my best.”
