Angus O'Brien struck the post with a last-ditch drop-goal attempt as Newport Gwent Dragons fell to a 19-17 Guinness PRO12 loss to Treviso on Friday night.

Fresh from recording their first win of the season over Cardiff Blues last Saturday, the Italians secured a second consecutive win over Welsh opposition as Newport's wait for an away triumph in this year's competition continued.

The hosts ran in three tries but were fortunate that O'Brien's late drop-goal try struck the upright, with Hallam Amos then pushed into touch as Treviso held on for a surprise win.

Amos' first-half try, and O'Brien's subsequent conversion, cancelled out an early score from Angelo Esposito and the Dragons then lead through a penalty from their fly-half.

However, Treviso moved ahead prior to the interval when Filo Paulo crashed over and they increased their lead after the restart with a breakaway try from Ludovico Nitoglia.

Cory Hill's try reduced the deficit, though, and Jayden Hayward missed two penalties for the Italians to keep Newport in it, but they failed to capitalise with their late opportunities.
