England have revealed that centre Jonathan Joseph is a doubt for England's key World Cup clash with Wales on Saturday due to a chest injury.

England backs coach Andy Farrell told the media that Joseph's fitness would be determined one way or another by Wednesday at a press conference earlier today held at the team base in Surrey.

"JJ has a bit of a knock, nothing too serious and we're working hard to get him fit,"

"We'll give JJ every chance to prove his fitness. We'll know if he's fit tomorrow. If he's not, then it's only a week long injury."

Farrell also revealed that No8 Ben Morgan suffered a bang on the knee but stressed that the injury "isn't serious at all" and the Gloucester back-row remains in contention for Saturday’s clash at Twickenham.

Morgan did not train with England on Monday.

If Joseph is ruled out by injury it would come as a huge blow for England as Joseph’s form for club and country over the last year has seen him heralded as the star playmaker of the current iteration of the English backline. Head coach Stuart Lancaster has previously described the Bath centre as a perpetual matchwinning threat.

Lancaster does have several options at his dispoal should Joseph fail to recover in time for Saturday. Henry Slade and Sam Burgess are the two other specialist outside centres (although both can also play inside centre) in England’s 31-man squad while fly-half Owen Farrell also has experience of playing at centre.
