Wales and British and Irish Lions prop Gethin Jenkins has extended his stay at the Cardiff Blues until 2017.

Jenkins made his Blues debut in 2004 and has now appeared 164 times for the region either side of a one-season stop at Toulon in 2012-13.

The 35-year-old loosehead is Wales' most capped international, having featured on 121 occasions for his country since making his debut in 2002.

Jenkins also won five Lions caps on the respective 2005 and 2009 tours to New Zealand and South Africa.

"We are naturally very pleased that Gethin has signed a new contract to extend his career at Cardiff Blues," head coach Danny Wilson told the official club website.

"Gethin is a vastly experienced prop who demands the highest standards from himself and those around him and has excelled at both regional and international level over the last decade.

"There will be real competition for the loosehead prop jersey in our squad next season with the likes of Gethin and Rhys Gill.

"Gethin will also be the ideal role model and mentor for the talented young players within our squad and those coming through our system, who we believe have a bright future with us."
