France head coach Fabien Galthie described the Springboks as “perhaps the best team ever” ahead of Saturday’s Test in Paris.

The remark reflects his respect for the world-champion Springboks under skipper Siya Kolisi and coach Rassie Erasmus.

Since their 2023 Rugby World Cup triumph, South Africa have remained dominant, suffering just four defeats in over 20 Tests.

Galthie pointed to their consistency, physicality and depth of talent as evidence of their elite status. He acknowledged:

“It’s the most difficult challenge this current generation has ever faced. We've never played such a good team.”

France meet the Springboks in Paris for the first time since South Africa’s World Cup win at Stade de France in 2023.

While France are missing several key players, including star scrum-half Antoine Dupont, Galthie emphasised that this weekend is about both respect for opponents and a test of France’s own mettle.

“We have a lot of players who are absent or injured that could potentially be in the team,” he added.

“We have players who have experienced the game too.

“Sometimes you have to look backwards to go forwards".
