Argentina international lock Franco Molina is set to return to the Gallagher PREM after agreeing a two-season deal with Newcastle Red Bulls, starting from the 2026/27 campaign.

The 28-year-old second row has earned 20 caps for Argentina and has featured in a number of high-profile Test victories, including wins over New Zealand, Australia, France and the British & Irish Lions.

Molina already has PREM experience, having spent the 2024/25 season with Exeter Chiefs, where he made 17 appearances across domestic and European competitions. His time in Devon helped establish his credentials in the English game and made him a known quantity to PREM clubs.

Before joining Newcastle, Molina will play the 2026 Super Rugby season with Australia’s Western Force, allowing him to remain at elite level before making the move to Tyneside later that year.

Speaking about the transfer, Molina said he was excited by the direction Newcastle Red Bulls are heading in and highlighted the club’s long association with Argentinian players as a key factor in his decision.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be joining Newcastle Red Bulls - a club that has such a rich affinity with Argentinian players.

“After my conversation with Jonny Petrie and Neil McIlroy it is obvious that this is a really exciting time to be involved with the club, and I cannot wait for what is to come.

“I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates and achieving something special there.”
