England have named Asher Opoku-Fordjour and Charlie Ewels to its 36-player squad ahead of Saturday’s test against Australia at Twickenham filling the roster after prop Joe Marler’s retirement announcement.

Marler’s decision came just a day after England’s narrow 24-22 loss to New Zealand in the Autumn Nations Series opener.

Opoku-Fordjour, who has been making headlines this season with standout performances for Sale, steps in to replace Marler. Known for his versatility, Opoku-Fordjour initially gained prominence as a loosehead prop, helping England clinch victory in the World Rugby U20 Championship.

He has since transitioned to tighthead with Sale, showcasing his adaptability and resilience on the field. The young prop even earned praise from Marler himself during a memorable encounter between Harlequins and Sale last season.

Joining Opoku-Fordjour is Charlie Ewels, another familiar face in the England setup, called up to replace Bath teammate Ted Hill. Ewels adds experience to England's forward lineup and is expected to make a significant impact in the upcoming clash.

"I have got a big thing about young, up-and-coming front-rowers," said Marler, who has announced his international retirement for the second time.

"This guy, No18 (Opoku-Fordjour), I like the look of."

After the narrow defeat to the All Blacks, England will be looking to bounce back when they take on the Wallabies this Saturday.
