Eddie Jones visits Preston Grasshoppers

Preston Grasshoppers hosted current England Coach Eddie Jones on Monday 16th January to officially open the new artificial grass pitch.

There looked to be over 2000 people in attendance as Eddie Jones talked to the assembled groups and supported coaching sessions on the new surface.

It was interesting to listen to his comments away from the usual TV coverage of Sky and BBC. He has clearly understood the significance of Preston as a hotbed for coaches. From the legendary Dick Greenwood to his son, Will, who is increasingly involved in coaching; most recently with the Barbarians. The Sanderson Brothers have also put Preston Grasshoppers on the map but it is Steve Borthwick that Jones believes can become England’s greatest ever coach.

The former Hutton Grammar School and Preston Grasshoppers player forged a career with Bath, Saracens and England before joining Jones in Japan. After Japan it was a brief spell at Bristol Rugby before joining up with England and Jones.

An honourable mention went to Sale Sharks' full-back and ex-Preston Grasshopper Mike Haley, who is in the current England Rugby training squad.

The superb new pitch is a testimony to the Club, its volunteers, players and management.
