We take a look at Dynamic tape (not to be misinterpreted as a kinesiology tape) a highly elastic tape to contribute energy into the kinetic chain.
It looks at deceleration and resistance whilst still maintaining full range. Dynamic tape claims to visco-elastic, the faster you stretch the more resistance it provides, which means it responds to the nature of the users movement, rather than being an elastic that doesn't react to unique movements.
They claim that Dynamic Tape 'is an exciting and completely new therapeutic and athletic tape. It is nothing like kinesio tapes, is made from completely different material, has completely different physical properties and should not be used like a kinesio tape.'
'It's unique physical properties, very strong recoil (many times stronger than a kinesio tape) and four way stretch permit genuine, biomechanical taping which can be used to decelerate motion to absorb load or to modify movement patterns and position without limiting range of motion at all.'
It is not designed to limit range like rigid tapes but rather to permit full range whilst still providing strong support where needed.
Dynamic Tape is also said to have 'unique properties and four way stretch, which permits taping ways not previously possible with rigid tapes, non wovens or kinesiology tapes'... something which when reviewed we agree with. There's nothing worse than getting taped up on game day around your limbs and having edges that catch or that aren't flexible enough to move with the body's contours. Dynamic tape works with the curves of the body, still offering that load resistance.
At £10-20 for 5m metres it's not too expensive for a one off. The affordability obviously depends on whether your injury/niggle is likely to recover within a short time or if this is a safety precaution you intend to use before every workout/game/exercise.
Whether coming back from injury or you're looking at injury prevention, and you're looking for a tape to provide you with deacceleration and resistance but with full range of movement, this is the tape for you!
