British and Irish Lions coverage

In 1997, two 5 year olds met in Melbourne and forged a sporting friendship. Whether playing Aussie Rules together or cricket there was a sporting rivalry. Max Ashcroft, a Pom living in Australia and Matt Wood the fair dinkum Aussie.

The sporting banter between the two now helps TRU bring you the best inside coverage of rugby union. The last time the two were together was Melbourne 2013 for the Lions versus Australia Test Match.

The two are now plotting the 2017 Lions coverage that TRU will provide via the website and social media.

"We plan to provide a unique series of features in the run up to the Lions squad being announced. We will have a weekly Lions Watch and will offer our readers and fans the opportunity to spot the young Lion," commented Max Ashcroft

"The concept of how a team and a squad build in advance of their first game will be at the heart of our coverage. It's the whole of the Lions not just the selected players" said Matthew Wood.

The tour itself will be covered by a core team from TRU with help from local rugby bloggers. The University of Durham rugby squad will be touring New Zealand and following the Lions; they aim to bring news from the world of University Rugby and the Lions simultaneously.

"Our media partnership with BUCS has given #unirugby a voice like never before and Durham's Director of Rugby, Alex Keay, is hugely supportive of our initiatives" said Max Ashcroft.

"Combining the two in New Zealand will differentiate our news from the more main stream rugby media sources. Rugby Fans, Parents, Players and Coaches will have a richer choice as result" were Matthew Wood's closing lines.

Max Skofic, the videographer behind the content produced for TRU was quick to point out that New Zealand offered the opportunity for inspiring images: "Video allows us to capture the action on and off the pitch. We intend to locate Lions Fans throughout New Zealand and share their stories on video."
