Tarleton Second XV travelled away to Bolton RUFC with both teams unbeaten. Despite missing a few key players due to stag nights and weddings, Tarleton still showed up with a good squad.

However, they never really got started in this game as though their heads where elsewhere. Bolton played far more controlled, organised rugby with all of their 15 players knowing their game plan and sticking to it. There always seemed to be time to get the ball away from the tackle and there was always someone there to take the ball on.

Bolton ran the game from start to finish and were well worth the points as they trounced Tarleton 39-7.

Tarletons' consolation try came too late in the game when they suddenly realised that if they used all of their backs they could create gaping holes in Bolton's defence and a well worked move and possibly Tarleton's best passage of play resulted in a try for Lee Waddell.

Bolton were worthy winners and it is to be hoped that Tarleton can bounce back with another away match against Ormskrk next week.

The Firsts also had a tough match and travelled away to Keswick with the best squad available with five players still unavailable for selection for this match. They came away with a bonus point that could have been more but a last minute penalty to Keswick saw them take the match with the last kick of the game, 6-5.

Disapointing, I’m sure, for the players but I don’t think many teams will travel to Keswick this season and come away with anything.

Next week’s match for the Firsts is at home against top of the table Hawcoat Park and will be another stern test for them in the North Lancashire & Cumbria league.
