The All Blacks fans have little to worry about on the paddock given the large amount of publicity and outrage from fans concerning the expensive price ($220 NZ) of the new All Blacks Adidas jersey is their biggest concern. While fans from other countries are worried about their over the hill forward pack, lack of spark in the backline or the fragile tight five, but fans of the brilliant All Blacks have few concerns on the field with recent wins over the Springboks and Wallabies.
The interesting thing with this debacle is that Adidas stopped some overseas based online retailers from selling their products to New Zealanders for about half the price that it was available in New Zealand stores and the Rugby World Cup store. This move was iron fisted and a publicity botch up. I think Adidas should be able to charge whatever they want for these jerseys, especially given how popular the All Blacks are and will be as Rugby World Cup hosts and favourites combined with the brilliant reputation of the Adidas brand.
It seems funny how New Zealanders are showing their outspoken patriotism by complaining about the expensive price of the new Adidas All Blacks jerseys when very few New Zealanders actually own these tops or would be likely to buy them. I have been to sports events worldwide and found far more patriotism in the USA and Europe with most people wearing their team uniforms to matches and in general than in New Zealand. I am hoping this number will increase in New Zealand as we "blackout" the stadia for All Blacks matches. I think more people are complaining than would actually buy them, but at least it caused a reaction and the prices will drop as a result. Adidas can charge what they want and if people can't afford the jerseys, then don't buy them. Purchase some other merchandise or a cheaper supporters jersey instead. Supply and demand suggests that Adidas can charge plenty for these All Blacks jerseys and if no one buys them, the price will drop.
It is only a piece of clothing and not an under performing team like most other international fans are worried about heading into Rugby World Cup 2011. Are you New Zealand fans really hard done by or do they just need something to complain about? I hate to hear them if/when the All Blacks don't win the tournament (dear I say it!).
