Glasgow Warriors have acquired the services of Ruaridh Mackenzie in an agreement with BT Premiership side Ayr for the remainder of the season.

This will be homecoming for the 21-year-old, who left Scotland when he was three months old to New Zealand. His father Gregor had played for Scotland on one occasion in 1984 against the Wallabies at Murrayfield.

The back-row now will have to divide his time playing for both Glasgow Warriors and Ayr after signing the dual contract. It was on Saturday, Mackenzie came off the bench to score a try for his team Ayr in the clash against Glasgow Hawks.

Mackenzie expressed his delight of returning back to Scotland.

"I'm excited about what's to come. I have strong roots in Scotland, having been born here and all my family are Scottish. It's great to come back to play my rugby in Scotland," he said.

Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend believes the dual contract of Mackenzie will benefit him in evolving as a player.

"It's a great opportunity for Ruaridh to immerse himself in our culture and style of play.

"He has already made a positive impression in training and on his debut for Ayr at the weekend.

"Spending time with both clubs will really benefit Ruaridh and we're looking forward to seeing him continue his development."

During his time in New Zealand, Mackenzie was part of the Christchurch Boys High School following the likes of Dan Carter, Steve Hansen and Sir Graham Henry.
