Since 2011 Talking Rugby Union has been bringing Rugby 7s to the world of rugby fans. Initially working with USA based PartyCity Inc and their european subsidiary Amscan, the coverage of Rugby 7s has expanded. From Heineken Kinsale 7s to Commonwealth Games, the coverage has always featured images and this year will continune with the Dubai 7s added to the itinerary.
The competition has been prominent since 1988, when London Scottish took the honours. As the tournament developed it was added to World Rugby 7s series. Since 2006, there has been a women's competition.
The event is supported by global commerical partners in the form of Emirates, HSBC and DHL. The 2016 tournament is being held between 1st and 3rd December. Talking Rugby Union will bring live coverage with help from The Gulf Rugby Paper, Mike Brown an old friend of TRU and Brightsun Travel.
Ahead of the Dubai 7s this weekend, HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series commentator Dallen Stanford spoke to TRU’s Joe Harvey after the competition announced changes for the future and the start of the women’s competition.
Gayle Broughton scored the decisive try in the closing stage as New Zealand successfully defended the Dubai 7s title with a 14-17 win over Canada 7s in the second round of the Women's World Rugby Sevens Series.
South Africa started the Men's World Rugby Sevens Series with a victory as they blanked South Africa 0-15 in the final of the Dubai 7s on Saturday.
