Harlequins 28-24 Glasgow Warriors, Twickenham Stoop

Harlequins have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Investec Champions Cup as they edge out Glasgow Warriors 28-24 in the round of 16 clash at Twickenham Stoop on Friday.

This is the first knock out win for Harlequins in the Champions Cup history as they now face either Bordeaux Begles or Saracens in the quarter-final game next weekend.

Glasgow made a promising start to the game as lock Scott Cummings powered his way over the line in the 2nd minute and George Horne kicked the conversion to make it 0-7.

The response from the Quins came in the 22nd minute when Marcus Smith sent a cross field kick that was collected by Andre Esterhuizen on his way over the line. Smith kicked the conversion as the scores were levelled 7-7.

Glasgow suffered a setback as Sione Tuipulotu was sin-binned in the 32nd minute for repeated infringements and the Quins made full use of the numerical advantage as Smith sliced his way through for a converted try making it 14-7.

The Quins continued to be relentless as Smith sent an inside pass to Cadan Murley, who forced his way over the line extending their lead to 21-7 by the end of the opening half.

Glasgow showed better intent in the second half as Johnny Matthews and George Horne went over to level the scores 21-21 by the 53rd minute before Horne's penalty kick by the 59th minute put the Scottish side into a three-point lead.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts when replacement prop Joe Marler was shown yellow but despite the setback they held their nerve and secured their fourth try forcing his way over the line and Smith improved helping the Quins to a thrilling win.
