Woodman coaching at his old club

Gloucester Rugby have appointed former player Trevor Woodman as their scrum coach on a permanent basis.

Woodman, who played for the club between 1995 and 2004, was handed the role in March until the end of the recently completed season and has now been awarded a full-time position within new head coach Laurie Fisher's set-up.

The 2003 World Cup winner's appointment follows the news on Wednesday that Fisher had taken the head coach position and last month's announcement that David Humphreys would join from Ulster as director of rugby.

Woodman, who won 22 England caps between 1999 and 2004, is pleased to have extended his stay at Kingsholm Stadium and will be hoping to help Gloucester improve upon their ninth-place 2013/14 Aviva Premiership finish.

He told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased to be staying with Gloucester. A lot has happened at the club over the past few weeks, but we've added some quality individuals to the coaching team. I'm delighted to be involved and that I can maintain my involvement with Cheltenham College.

"No-one was satisfied with how we performed last year, and that's providing extra motivation for everyone as we prepare for next season. We know where we want to be and we're working hard to achieve that.

"I'm particularly looking forward to working with Laurie Fisher, whose background speaks for itself. He's achieved big things wherever he has coached and I think we'll make a good team.

"The squad is looking strong as a whole, but it's now a question of getting everyone to realise their undoubted potential and helping Gloucester to move onwards and upwards."
