Gloucester have announced the signing of Leeds Carnegie back-row forward Jacob Rowan.

The 24-year-old captained Leeds to a third-placed finish in the Championship this season before they suffered play-off elimination over two legs against London Welsh.

Rowan also skippered England Under-20s during the 2010 Junior World Championship in Argentina, leading a side that included current Gloucester players Jonny May and Shaun Knight.

"I am at the stage of my career where I want to really test myself at the highest level on a consistent basis," Rowan told Gloucester's official website.

"When I heard that Gloucester were interested in me, it was too good an opportunity to turn down."

Rowan will make his final Leeds appearance this weekend in the British and Irish Cup final against Leinster A in Dublin.
