Queensland Rugby Union and Rugby Australia have confirmed that scrum-half Tate McDermott has re-signed until 2027.

McDermott made his Wallabies debut in 2020 against New Zealand and has 15 Test appearances scoring two tries. His re-signing will be a big boost to the Australian rugby having secured his services for the 2025 series against the British and Irish Lions and the home Rugby World Cup in 2027.

The 24-year-old made his professional rugby debut with provincial side Queensland Country in 2017 with his first Super Rugby game for Reds coming a year later. He has gone on to play 70 games for the Reds and was promoted as co-captain in the 2022 season.

"It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to live and play Rugby in Queensland. That is a dream I’ve had since I was a young boy," he told the Reds' official website.

"I love representing the Queensland Reds and the Wallabies, and staying here in Australia gives me the chance to continue to do that.

"There is plenty left to achieve in this country. With a Lions Tour and a home World Cup on the horizon, that is a future I want to be part of."

Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones is pleased with McDermott re-committing his future to Australian rugby.

"Tate is a young player who has much to achieve in the game and to have him re-sign long-term shows his commitment to Australian Rugby which is really positive.

"He's a leader at the Queensland Reds and we'll be watching him closely for the remainder of the Super Rugby season."
