Wallabies coach Michael Cheika slammed England coach Eddie Jones for his comments made during their recent tour of Australia and believes he has tarnished his image in the country of his birth.

Jones led England to their maiden 3-0 series whitewash against Wallabies down under last summer and during the tour the 56-year-old criticised the lack of respect shown on him and his team from the Australian media.

Jones also coached Australia between 2001 and 2005 and during this phase he also helped them reach the 2003 World Cup final which they eventually lost to England.

"There was a lot of vitriol about Australia, his home nation," said Cheika of Jones during the summer tour.

"It's where he coached, where the opportunities were given to him to grow up as a coach, and play.

"Personally if you're looking to leave a legacy somewhere, you don't want to hit back at it when you leave."

England currently are on a 13-match winning streak and a victory against Wallabies on Saturday will help them level their record of continuous victories in 14 matches which was set in 2003 under Sir Clive Woodward.

Jones already had a conversation with referee Jaco Peyper to address the Wallabies' scrummaging technique thereby escalating the tensions between the two teams.

"I suppose it's always difficult when you go back into a tournament where you're playing teams you've coached before.

"And you don't really know how to play it, do you stay reserved or do you go out there and get stuck into them? I know what I do, even in a country like Ireland when I'm there where I coached for many years.

"I didn't coach the national team there, but that's the choice he wants to make, and he thinks is best for his team."
