Aviva Premiership club Bath have confirmed that lock Matt Garvey has signed a new contract.

The 29-year-old joined Bath in 2013 after spending four years with London Irish and has made over 90 appearances since then.

Garvey, who has also represented England Saxons is currently undergoing a rehabilitation from an injury that he sustained in January.

Bath rugby director Todd Blackadder lavished praise on Garvey, who he believes is an "invaluable squad member".

"To have Matt committing to Bath is great news for the club," Blackadder said.

"He is a huge competitor, an inspiring leader and an invaluable squad member on and off the field.

" Matt has shown great support for his team-mates during his time on the sidelines, which is a testament to his character."

Bath are currently placed at fifth in the Aviva Premiership table with 48 points from 18 matches.
