Jaguares 38-8 Lions, Estadio Jose Amalfitani
Scorecard

Jaguares started the new Super Rugby season with a five-try performance as they defeated Lions 38-8 at Estadio Jose Amalfitani on Saturday.

Lions had a chance to open their account early but Elton Jantjies' penalty went wide of the post. Jaguares had an early setback with fly-half Joaquin Diaz Bonilla injured but his replacement Domingo Miotti provided an impact straightaway as he scored a converted try in the 10th minute.

Jantjies managed to get the Lions off the mark with a three-pointer just before the end of the first quarter and soon they went on to claim the lead Andre Riaan Warner dotting down in the 22nd minute.

The teams finished the first half with a 10-8 scoreline after Miotti scored a penalty goal in the 28th minute.

The home side were reduced to 14-men temporarily with Marcos Kremer sin-binned for a dangerous tackle at the start of the second half but Lions failed to take advantage of the numerical advantage and instead conceded a try to Matias Moroni in the 50th minute.

The Jaguares centre went on to cross the whitewash for the second time in the 59th minute as Jaguares increased their lead to 16 points and any chance of the South African side coming back was put off with the home side scoring two more tries through Javier Ortega Desio (69') and Agustin Creevy (74') as the Argentina side started the campaign with a resounding 30-point victory.
