Scarlets have announced that assistant coach Ioan Cunningham will continue in his role after signing a new deal with the Pro 12 side.

The former number eight worked as a Elite Youth Development Manager with Ospreys following which he joined Scarlets as Academy coach in 2011.

The 34-year-old has made over 100 appearances for Llanelli RFC and also led them to SWALEC Cup title win in 2005 and features for Scarlets in four games as well.

Cunningham was delighted with the contract extension and is confident that Scarlets can compete with the best sides around the world.

"I'd like to thank the Scarlets for the opportunity and I'm looking forward to continuing to give my best to ensure that the region becomes a successful one," said Cunningham.

"I'm delighted and proud to have the opportunity to continue my coaching development at the Scarlets.

"We're now in a position where we're able to compete with some of the best sides in Europe and conceded only two tries from driving line-outs in the European Rugby Champions Cup to forward powerhouses Saracens and Toulon."
