Australia head coach Eddie Jones has backed his side to emerge victorious in the Bledisloe Cup opener in Melbourne on Saturday.

The All Blacks are the favourites for the weekend's encounter having claimed the Bledisloe Cup for 20 consecutive years and have won both their matches in the ongoing Rugby Championship.

On the other side, Australia have lost their games against South Africa and Argentina as they have slipped to the eighth position in the World Rugby Rankings.

Australia's chances of claiming the Bledisloe Cup seem uncertain, as they haven't managed to secure the silverware since 2002, coincidentally during Jones' previous tenure. They would not only need to win in Melbourne but also in Dunedin next month to achieve this feat.

Despite the odds are stacked against them, Jones feels the Wallabies have the potential to stun Ian Foster's men which could put them back on track in the World Cup preparations.

“I’m still getting to know the players and the players are still getting to know me," he said.

"We needed to find out where the best balance of the team is but just watching the team train I liked the look of it.

“There’s not too many people outside our group that thinks we can win the game but there’s 85,000 people that might be in for a shock.”
