Cardiff have announced that Argentina scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou will join the Welsh province for the remainder of the season on loan.

The 30-year-old will provide cover to injured Tomos Williams with back up scrum-half Jamie Hill also leaving the province to Australia.

Bertranou made his professional rugby debut with Jaguares in 2016 and moved to Dragons in 2021. He has overall made 30 appearances for Dragons apart from making over 50 appearances for Argentina at the international level.

He was also part of Argentina squad that competed in the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.

“It was important that we brought in some further quality at scrum-half following the injury to Tomos Williams and the departure of Jamie Hill," said Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt.

“Gonzalo certainly fits that bill. He brings real quality, experience and professionalism in the position.

“He has more than 50 caps for Argentina, has captained them and is highly motivated to put in some big performances in Blue and Black. He’s trained today and we’re looking forward to seeing how he progresses here.”

Cardiff are positioned 12th in the United Rugby Championship table with three wins from 13 matches.
