Australia have been dealt a blow ahead of their second Rugby World Cup game against Fiji with scrum-half Tate McDermott ruled out of the encounter due to a head knock.

McDermott sustained the injury following a collision with Georgia number eight Beka Gorgadze and was forced to leave the field in the 37th minute before he was replaced by Nic White.

Following the game, England coach Eddie Jones confirmed that the 24-year-old's head knock was rated as a grade one concussion.

“Tate’s up walking around, he’ll do all the medical protocols,” said Jones following the game.

According to the protocols, McDermott will have a mandatory 12-day rest period which will effectively rule him out of the game against Fiji on 17th September but is expected to return for the encounter against Wales on 24th September.

Meanwhile, Jones confirmed that Samu Kerevi was replaced at the end of the opening half as a precautionary move.

“Samu we always planned to play 40… we wanted to give him a hit-out,” Jones added.

“He hasn’t played since Dunedin so we needed to give him some time but he’s come back from from a number of number of injuries so the plan was to get him ready for Fiji next week."
